As the co-founder of Design Bees, I’ve had the opportunity to chat and work closely with startups, SMBs, Marketing Consultants and Fractional CMO’s operating in various industries. It’s been wonderful meeting some many folks both in person and virtually about our graphic design packages for small businesses.
As we look to evolve our services, designer recruitment, and offerings, we focus acutely on what our partners require. We listen and adapt accordingly. The elephant in the room is obviously AI, and its impact on the industry. No doubt it helps by short cutting processes, ideating, thinking, and outputs, but the one thing I consistently hear is that it still has its limitations with respect to design. Issues like flat files, incorrect formats and limited application of file outputs. Our partners still value the human touch. We’ve had to re-create AI designs, re-format and reproduce applicable output files. AI is having an impact and one we embrace, we’ll continue to work with partners to help them manage their design needs. However, there is so much more happening in our world beyond AI.
So now, as everyone rolls back into the full swing of things, I thought I’d share what we’re seeing and hearing as things to watch out for. Here’s how they may align with the needs of businesses like yours.
1. Authentic Storytelling Through Design
Customers today crave authenticity, and that translates directly into design. More SMBs are shifting away from overly polished, generic visuals and embracing design elements that feel personal and relatable. We’ve helped clients integrate hand-drawn illustrations, natural textures, and candid photography that reflect their brand’s unique story. This approach builds trust and fosters deeper connections with audiences.
Tip for SMBs: Focus on visuals that highlight your business’s journey, values, and people. Partner with a design service that understands how to convey your story authentically.
2. Human-Centered AI Integration
Artificial intelligence is revolutionising graphic design, but it’s the human element that makes the difference. AI tools can handle repetitive tasks like resizing or colour adjustments, but creativity, strategy, and emotional resonance still require a human touch. Our clients often tell us they appreciate the efficiency AI brings, but they rely on our designers to add that “magic” that makes their brand stand out.
Tip for SMBs: Use AI tools for efficiency but pair them with human designers who can ensure your brand’s voice shines through.
3. Inclusive Design
Inclusivity is a necessity. SMBs are increasingly asking for designs that reflect diverse audiences. Whether it’s through imagery, color palettes, or typography, ensuring everyone feels represented in your marketing materials is key to building customer loyalty.
Tip for SMBs: Work with designers who are attuned to inclusive design principles and can help you connect with a broader audience.
4. Sustainability in Design
Eco-consciousness is another trend we’ve seen gain traction. From using earthy colors and minimalist designs to supporting sustainable printing practices, SMBs are showing their commitment to the environment through their branding.
Tip for SMBs: Incorporate subtle sustainability cues in your designs to appeal to eco-conscious consumers.
5. Dynamic Content and Motion Graphics
With the rise of short-form video within, motion graphics are no longer a luxury, they’re a necessity. Many SMBs we work with are looking for eye-catching animations that tell their story in seconds. Motion graphics add energy and engagement to your content, especially on platforms like Instagram.
Tip for SMBs: Consider adding animated elements to your social media posts, website, or email campaigns to boost engagement.
The Takeaway: Keep It Human
While trends come and go, one thing remains constant: the value of human creativity. At Design Bees, we believe that great design is about more than just aesthetics. It’s about understanding your goals, connecting with your audience, and delivering designs that make an impact. The businesses we’ve worked with tell us that this personal touch makes all the difference.
If you’re looking for a partner to help you navigate these trends and bring your vision to life, we’re here to help with our graphic design packages for small businesses!
